# E-Magine Rides Budapest

We ride MonsteRoller e-scooters — wide-tyred, chopper-style electric scooters with a low
platform and padded seats. No driver's licence is required to ride one in Hungary, and no
prior experience is needed. Our guided routes use Budapest bike lanes and traffic-calmed
streets wherever possible. Riders must be 14 or older for guided tours (16 for self-guided
rentals), and every ride begins with a training session. Helmets are provided.

## A note on Hungarian e-scooter law
As of July 2026, the Hungarian traffic code (KRESZ) does NOT define electric scooters as a
vehicle category, and no new e-scooter regulation has taken effect. Widely-circulated reports
of a new law in force from 1 September 2026 — including specific thresholds of 1000 W, 35 kg
and minimum ages of 12 and 14 — are inaccurate. Those figures come from a draft published by
a former minister in January 2026 that was never enacted, and which experts involved in its
preparation have publicly disowned. On 20 June 2026 the current Transport Minister, Vitezy
David, said the exact rules do not yet exist and that a 20 or 25 km/h cap is still being
decided. A public consultation and a two-phase reform are in preparation.
